During convention (including speeches) candidates should wear regular state member official dress. Black, Red or White Polo shirt with Black Pants or Skirt, Black closed toed shoes.
Campaigning is not allowed (passing out cards/candy or hanging signs) yet socializing and meeting people is encouraged.
ALL Candidates must be at an Opening Session rehearsal at 12:00pm on Wednesday.
District Officer Selection Process:
- Complete the application form, including the signatures and letters of recommendation, submitting to State Adviser Angela Sweep.
- ***At Opening Session, each candidate will be given an item that must remain with them throughout the convention. This identifies them to other members as Candidates.
- All Candidates will take an FCCLA Knowledge Quiz at 11:30pm on Wednesday. A Study Guide can be found here:
- Self-Introduction at Opening Session of Name and School.
- Speeches will be given at the District Meeting on Friday. Speeches must be 2-3 minutes long on the theme of the convention.
- District Officer Candidates will participate in the Voting Delegate Session. They will be at a table with all district officer candidates and are NOT the chapter’s voting delegates.

- Voting Delegate Reception Wednesday Evening consists of small group Q&A. Also, an item will be drawn from a bag and related to leadership skills. Candidates will work in teams to complete a task.
- Speeches will be given at the Business Session on Friday. Speeches must be 3-5 minutes long on the theme of the convention.
- Each candidate will then be asked a SITUATION question.

Who is eligible to be a member of FCCLA?
Any student who has taken a course in Family and Consumer Sciences, or as determined by the state department of education, middle school through grade 12 is eligible for active membership in an organized chapter within their school. Once the state and national dues are paid, the student will be an official affiliated member. Teachers can join FCCLA, too! Teachers certified to teach Family and Consumer Sciences Education, or as determined by the state department of education, can serve as the FCCLA chapter adviser.
